MythX shut down. What to use instead
Short answer: ConsenSys Diligence shut down MythX on March 31, 2026. ConsenSys points users to Diligence Fuzzing, and Mythril stays free and open source. If you want a report on your whole repo without writing fuzzing harnesses, run an AI pre-audit: Guardix is $200 flat.
What happened to MythX
MythX took no new subscriptions, and active subscriptions were cancelled on March 31, with existing credit refunded in full (MythX sunset notice). The MythX API, CLI and plugins have been offline since then (migration guide on dev.to).
MythX combined static analysis, symbolic execution and fuzzing. Here is where each part went:
| MythX part | What it is now | Source |
|---|---|---|
| MythX part Mythril (symbolic execution) | What it is now Open source, free | Source mythx.io , Mythril |
| MythX part Harvey (fuzzer) | What it is now Became Diligence Fuzzing, a ConsenSys product | Source mythx.io , Diligence blog |
| MythX part Maru (static analysis) | What it is now Archived; may be open sourced later | Source mythx.io |
| MythX part MythX API, CLI and plugins | What it is now Offline since March 31, 2026 | Source dev.to guide |
MythX alternatives, as of October 2026
-
Mythril is free and you run it yourself. There's no hosted service anymore.
-
Slither is a free open-source static analyzer. It's fast and runs locally or in CI.
-
Diligence Fuzzing is ConsenSys' own recommended replacement. You write the properties and harnesses it tests.
-
SolidityScan is a hosted scanner at $29.99 per report (1k lines of code) or $199.99 a month.
-
Guardix is an AI pre-audit of one repo at one commit. It costs $200 flat and the report is ready in 1–3 hours. On EVMBench it found 104 of 117 known vulnerabilities (self-reported; see the comparison).
Replacing a MythX step in CI
Remove the mythx-cli and MythX plugin calls first, because they now fail. The free drop-in for CI is Slither. Guardix doesn't run as a CI step today: you run it on a commit and get a report. A re-check after fixes is another $200 on the new commit.
For a broader look at scanners, see smart contract scanner.
When a tool isn't enough
No scanner replaces a manual audit for code that will hold serious funds. A pre-audit makes that audit shorter and its findings less basic. What a pre-audit is · What an audit costs
FAQ
- Is MythX still available?
- No. ConsenSys Diligence shut it down on March 31, 2026.
- What did ConsenSys recommend instead of MythX?
- Diligence Fuzzing, which grew out of Harvey, the MythX fuzzer.
- Is Mythril the same as MythX?
- No. Mythril was one part of MythX, the symbolic execution engine. It stays open source and free.
- What's a free MythX alternative?
- Mythril and Slither. Both are open source and run on your own machine.
- Can an AI audit replace MythX in my workflow?
- As a report on each commit before launch or before a paid audit, yes. Guardix isn't a CI plugin today, and it doesn't replace a manual audit for high-value code.
